Of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania, Tioga County had the most land for sale. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale in Pennsylvania on Lands of America recently was $45 million, though the median price for land and ranches for sale in Pennsylvania was $426,838. The average price of land and ranches for sale in Pennsylvania was $587,097. There was 1,049 acres of sold land in Pennsylvania recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an eight percent decrease in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $8.1 million. Tioga County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. Outdoor journal Seneca Creek recently pegged Pennsylvania as one of the country's "Top 3 Fly-fishing States," and it's hard to disagree with this assessment. Species including trout, steelhead and panfish swim in more than 85,000 miles of streams and rivers, along with 4,000 inland lakes and ponds. The state is home to 480 species of wild birds and wild mammals, many of which can be hunted on almost 1.5 million acres of state game lands. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Pennsylvania. In terms of size, Pennsylvania is the country's 33rd-largest state, covering an area of 46,058 square miles (29 million acres). In total, 44,743 square miles (97 percent) is land, while the remaining 1,312 square miles is covered by water.
